Turning REC procurement into a trading capability

  • Senior REC hire
  • Wholesale + retail
  • Active portfolio management

A senior REC trader/originator to connect wholesale generation and retail demand for a large US power generator.

View case study

A large US power generator with a growing retail supply business had historically managed Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) as a compliance and procurement function, rather than as an integrated trading activity. As the retail business expanded, the company increasingly faced a mismatch between where RECs were being generated and where they were needed, creating both procurement costs and market risk. The company needed a senior REC trader/originator who could sit across the wholesale and retail businesses and develop a more sophisticated strategy.
We identified and secured a senior environmental markets professional with direct experience across both REC trading and retail renewable procurement. The successful candidate was tasked with integrating the company's wholesale generation and retail requirements into a single REC strategy — optimising internally generated RECs, managing forward supply and demand, identifying market opportunities and developing bilateral relationships with generators, utilities and end-users.
The successful hire effectively created a centralised REC trading capability, allowing the business to move from reactive procurement to active portfolio management.

An off-market metals trader to rebuild a European desk

  • Off-market hire
  • Not on LinkedIn
  • European Base Metals

A targeted, off-market search across European Base Metals after a merchant lost much of its trading team.

View case study

A global commodities merchant unexpectedly lost a significant portion of its European Metals trading team, creating an immediate gap in market coverage and longer-term succession risk. The business needed experienced traders who could contribute immediately while rebuilding the team, requiring access to candidates beyond the active job market.
We conducted a targeted mapping of the European Base Metals market, identifying traders across merchants, banks, producers and specialist trading firms. Using our network and market intelligence, we identified proven performers who were not actively advertising their availability. The shortlist included an off-market candidate who was not visible on LinkedIn and had not previously been approached by the client. The successful hire came through a direct referral within our network.
The client secured an experienced Metals trader through a highly targeted, off-market search, restoring critical trading capability while strengthening its longer-term succession plan.

We identified the right talent and built a strong understanding of their motivations. Before offers were made, we advised the client on offer structure, positioning and process, helping minimise the risk of counteroffers. We also supported candidates throughout their resignation process, maintaining engagement through to joining.

Market mapping and continuous candidate insight for a global investment bank growing its Oil & Products division.

View case study

A global investment bank was growing its Oil & Products division and needed to hire high-calibre fundamental analysts. Previous hiring efforts had seen candidates withdraw from the process or fail to start, creating uncertainty around the available talent and the right profiles to target.
We mapped the market to identify analysts with the required skills, experience and geographic fit. Throughout the search, we maintained close dialogue with the client, sharing candidate motivations, skill gaps and real-time market intelligence. This enabled us to advise on search parameters and ensure the opportunity was aligned with what the market could realistically deliver.
